Labor volunteers assist 'Christmas in May' home fix-up event
By Steve Share

CHASKA - Painters Local 61 member Jim Fleischhacker cautioned a community volunteer high on a ladder, her paintbrush in hand: "Don't reach out too far…"
Skilled building trades union members, high school students, and other community volunteers worked side by side May 3 in Chaska to help fix up five homes as part of the annual "Christmas in May" event. Volunteers painted, did yardwork, and built a wheelchair ramp for a 92-year old World War II veteran.

About one-half of the group of volunteer union members came from District Council 82 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. Other unions represented included National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 9, Office and Professional Employees International Union Local 12, Pipefitters Local 539, Sheet Metal Workers Local 10, and Teamsters Local 120.
